Pizza 4P’s Sustainability Strategy
The Challenge
Pizza 4P's is not a typical restaurant chain. Founded on the philosophy of "Delivering Wow, Sharing Happiness," the company had already built a reputation as a sustainability leader in Vietnam's food and beverage sector. But they wanted to go further. They needed a comprehensive, long-term strategy that would align their sustainability ambitions with their core mission ("For Peace") and drive measurable change across energy, water, agriculture, biodiversity, and community development.
The question was how to move from good intentions to systemic transformation, across a growing organization operating in one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic markets.
Applying SiD
Starting in September 2023, Except worked closely with Pizza 4P's leadership, including both CEOs and the sustainability and finance teams. The project used the Symbiosis in Development (SiD) framework as the backbone for strategy development.
The process unfolded in structured phases, following SiD's five-step method:
- Initiation: Except trained Pizza 4P's leadership team in SiD fundamentals, systems thinking, and sustainability roadmapping, building internal capacity from the start.
- Intelligence Gathering: months of joint data collection covering environmental footprints, market trends, and competitive positioning. Stakeholder mapping identified influence networks and key perspectives.
- Co-creation: a three-day intensive workshop in Ho Chi Minh City brought the full team together to align on vision, set goals, and design the roadmap architecture.
What made this project distinctive was the integration of happiness as an operational sustainability metric. SiD's holistic approach, covering everything from ecosystems and energy to culture and well-being, provided the structure to treat happiness not as a soft aspiration but as a measurable, actionable outcome connected to business performance.
Outcomes
The project delivered a 15-year sustainability roadmap covering:
- Energy and water management strategy
- Biodiversity and regenerative agriculture pathways
- Community development frameworks
- New messaging and communications aligned with sustainability values
- Implementation management structure for long-term execution
The roadmap strengthened Pizza 4P's core business strategy while opening new development pathways. It demonstrated how a food and beverage company in a rapidly developing economy can lead on sustainability without sacrificing growth.
