Cycling the Method The method is designed and works best when it’s repeated several times. The first cycles function as a quick and dirty survey of the entire challenge, and subsequent cycles refine the analysis, understanding, solutioning, and evaluation. There’s no fixed number of cycles, and there are no rules for how long each cycle needs to take. We do generally recommend to perform at least three cycles. As an example, most of our basic projects have 3 cycles at minimum, but some projects have had dozens. For larger challenges, we suggest performing up to about 8 cycles, for example in a year long project.
